I was born in Saint-Petersburg, Russia, in a very artistic family: my mother is a writer and my father is a philosopher. I graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in 2004. During the years I spent in France and in New Mexico USA, I participated in a number of shows and was honored with several awards. In 2005 I received Jury’s choice and southwestern prize from Roswell Fine Arts League and New Mexico Art Society. My art work has been shown in the Greater Vancouver area since I have moved here in March 2006.
I studied French art, culture, history and literature during a year I spent in France. As additional education I have been studying history of classical music and learning how to play classical guitar. I was taking guitar lessons from Pepe Romero’s pupil while living in New Mexico USA.

Some artists call themselves avant-guard, some realists, impressionists or even surrealists. However, this type-casting is only important for those who lack talent. Anastasia Barabanova comes from Russia, the country of
classical ballet and great literature. The decades of totalitarian regime had been cruelly restraining of creative freedom, however, the country managed to preserve the great school of painting that has been practically
lost in the liberal West.

Anastasia went through this school's gauntlet. The steady hand of this fragile lady and outstanding talent for conveying her ideas to canvas brings a quiver to the hearts of everyone who sees her paintings for the first time!

During the several years that she spent in the Southern US and France, Anastasia was finally convinced of her brilliance. Only her outstanding beauty could possibly compete with her paintings.
